Feet binding started in China with dancers wanted their feet to be like the size of lotus flower. One of the main reasons is to find ‘a husband’ as it was their future then. To them small feet are still considered a criterion of beauty. In 1911, feet binding was officially ban in China.
Even though by then, there were many of them whom has migrated to Malaysia and created a demand for bound feet shoes. The local Malaysian started with this trade to supply the bound feet shoes to the women from China. Today, this is a very old trade in Malaysia and is a dying trade. It is still a very traditional business and those bound feet shoes are handmade with beautiful silk.
