Popularly known as ‘Heko’ or ‘Petis’. It is an exotic paste derived from shrimps. Specifically used in local hawker dishes like ‘Penang Laksa’, ‘Chee Cheong Fun’ and ‘Rojak’, giving them a most flavorful taste. This thick black paste has a molasses like consistency instead of the hard brick like appearance of belacan. It also tastes sweeter because of the added sugar.
